I had a pretty relaxing weekend. I did a fair bit of sleeping, cooking, reading, walking, studying and conversing. I also went to the English service on Sunday evening at Christus-Treff. I met some guys in my dorm from Yemen and there are two guys in one of the other language classes from Benin. We played foosball while on break one day. They speak French in Benin. Its amazing how many people there are here from all over the world. I enjoy talking with some of them and getting a little international flavor.
For culture and history class today, we went to a local radio station. We got to see how they operate and even record a little show. Embarrassing or cool? I'm not quite sure.
Did you know:
sales tax in Germany is 19%.

and just to clear things up,...I think you're smarter than that car, doesn't matter what that picture looks like.
happy b-day.

Happy Birth Day Jared! Dude 19%, that is not cool.
Happy Birthday from the Wilhelms!
Nice pictures.
Ooh, a smart car! I became somewhat obsessed with them when I went to Italy...they just looked so much like little toys, I could hardly believe that people actually drove them. Our tour bus could have squashed five at a time. :) Wow, the cobblestone street looks beautiful, though I'm sure it makes for a pretty bumpy bike ride. And that sales tax is absurd. I guess it'll keep you from going overboard with souvenir shopping, huh?
Happy birthday!
hey uncle j,
mya and i wanted to wish you a happy belated b-day! we didn't forget your special day...we were thinking of you all day. i was going to try and send some clever e-card with a pic of mya, but that didn't work out. anyway, i hope your b-day was good. we miss ya. did you get my email with the Google Picasa link to all of mya's pics? do you have your cell with you? can it receive videos? i took the cutest video of mya, and lane wanted to see if i could send it to you. love, mya and lori
Hey Jared, it's a day late, but happy birthday!! I love your pictures, makes me want to travel to different places. Thanks for keeping everyone back here up to date with your blog. :) Praying for you, have a great day!

It's not really surprising that Germany has high taxes and odd government control of things we take for granted as American "freedoms"....do you remember the Wegerts talking about how you can't call yourself a pastor unless you are ordained by a church approved by the government (something like that)? I also think you don't have to pay a certain tax if you are a "member" of certain churches or say you are of a certain religion....yeah, all my "certain" words really boost my authority on this topic!
I love the smart cars too! (and I definitely have photos of them!) But I would be scared to drive one on the highway, or the autobahn!
hey man!! i have to say happy b day too. life is good here.. and crazy. i guess you and caleb lewis are 2 days apart b day wise. cool cool. we miss ya!!
hope you are really enjoying yourself over there,
